Common Questions
First, please look at the Knowledgebase. It often covers things in more depth than here.
In addition, please check the pinned messages in the #support channel on our Discord server to see if your problem is mentioned there. We frequently cover temporary issues that apply only to select versions of packs in the pinned messages there.

General FAQ

Q: I get a crash as soon as I click Play in the Minecraft Launcher after launching through the CurseForge Client, how do I fix that? A: The CurseForge Beta fails to install Forge correctly if you have a space anywhere in your installation path. One alternative is to use a different launcher using the Installation instruction. You can manually download and install Forge from - make sure you get the version that matches the one listed in #changelog for the version of the pack you are using. Their site has a "Show All Versions" button to see other versions of Forge, and you can change between Minecraft version using the sidebar. You should use the Installer link and install it to the same Install folder that CurseForge uses (usually something like C:\Users\Your Name\Documents\Curse\Minecraft\Install).
Q: I get a message about insufficient allocated RAM, or the game has performance issues, how do I fix this? A: The most common reason for the pack taking a long time to load in or create a new world is that inadequate memory is allocated. You can see the minimum memory requirement on the CurseForge page for the pack you're using. See Allocating Memory for instructions on how to adjust the amount of memory allocated to Java.
Q: I'm trying to run a server but it crashes when The Conjurer is being loaded, how do I fix this? A: You need to use Java 8, 64-bit to run a modded Minecraft server in Minecraft 1.16 or earlier. You can download it from here: [1] - select OpenJDK 8, Hotspot. For Minecraft 1.17 or later, select OpenJDK 16, and OpenJ9. Note that most modern Linux systems include OpenJDK by default but typically not the versions listed above. Please also see the Server Setup guide as it contains more information.
Q: How do I get my server listed in #servers channel on the Valhelsia Discord server? A: DM either Khytwel or Vaelzan on Discord with the name of the server, the location, how to access it, if it is whitelisted or not, contact information, Discord information (if you have one), and if any mods are added or removed from the pack. Use one of the existing servers (in the #servers channel on our Discord server) as a template for what to include. Please note: We may take a little while to list your server. We have limited staff and time available. Please be patient. In the mean time, you are welcome to mention your server in the Tavern channel for the pack, but do not abuse this. Finally, many people also choose to advertise their Valhelsia servers on Reddit here: (which, despite the name, isn't just for FTB servers).

Advanced Users FAQ

Note: This FAQ is intended for advanced users only who already know their way around Minecraft mod packs and are familiar with adjusting launcher settings.
Q: Are there any JVM parameters that can help pack performance? A: These parameters improve the way Java handles memory and are selected with Minecraft specifically in mind. Please note that these are intended for use with Forge modpacks using Java 8. These will likely not work as well for Minecraft 1.17 which uses Java 16.
-XX:+UseG1GC -Dsun.rmi.dgc.server.gcInterval=2147483646 -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:G1NewSizePercent=20 -XX:G1ReservePercent=20 -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50 -XX:G1HeapRegionSize=32M
These were obtained from the excellent Reddit post by CPW here: [2] While these arguments are fairly old now (the post is from 2016), they still work very well in recent versions of Minecraft since Minecraft still targets Java 8 (prior to Minecraft 1.17, which uses Java 16). The main change over the years is that memory usage has continued to increase, mainly due to changes to vanilla Minecraft but also because of the number of mods that many packs now include.

Gameplay FAQ

Q: Does Valhelsia 3 have Vein Miner or Ore Excavation? A: No, but there are tools available with vein mining options, such as the Atomic Disassembler from Mekanism. For tree felling, there is the Terra Truncator from Botania. There are also many tools with AoE (area of effect) capabilities, such as the Cthonic Extractors in Tetra or the Terra Shatterer from Botania as well as the Excavating enchant, which can be applied to any pickaxe to give it AoE mining. This isn't an exhaustive list by any means.
Q: Are there any Builder's Wands in Valhelsia 3? A: Yes. There's the Handheld Blockzapper from Create (removed in their last update 0.3.2), the Building Gadgets mod (since the Birthday Update to replace the Handheld Blockzapper from Create) as well as the Formation Wand from Astral Sorcery.
Q: Are there any Chunk Loaders in Valhelsia 3? A: You can chunk load using either the Anchor Upgrade in Mekanism or the Flux Plugs / Flux Points from Flux Networks. Since the Birthday Update, there is also the Chunk Loaders mod. In the future, there will also be our own chunk loader that will replace all current chunk loaders.
Q: Can you move spawners in Valhelsia 3? And how? A: There are several methods: (1) You can pick up a spawner with both of your hands empty by crouching and right-clicking, (2) by using a cardboard box from Mekanism (requires sawdust), or (3) by using a pickaxe enchanted with Silk Touch. There are other methods but these are the easiest.
